(GEMS RADIO)-Missy Elliott keeps gaining recognition. Norfolk State University has awarded Missy Elliott with yet another honorary doctorate. Missy Elliott has now received two honorary degrees. The legendary Hip-Hop artist also delivered the keynote speech at the NSU 2022 commencement. She declared that she would give the school at least $20,000 in donations.
During the event over the weekend, Missy Elliott joined the almost 400 members of the class of ’22. Missy Elliott encouraged them to pursue their ambitions.
The Virginia native exclaimed, “I am proud of y’all, and y’all should be proud of y’all yourself.” “I want you to turn to each other and tell one another that you already won. Alert them! No winning because you are already the winner. Because you had the option of doing anything else the past few years. Things like going crazy, but you chose to complete the course. And that’s important.
The four-time Grammy winner received an honorary degree from Norfolk State. The Presidential Commencement Medallion, marking her second such accomplishment. 2019 saw the awarding of Missy’s first honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.
Missy Elliott honored the university with a $20,000 check as the event ended. According to a campus representative, she asked that her contribution go “to the area of most need.”
She wrote on Twitter, “Two-time Doctorate “Dr Elliott” I am extremely Grateful.” she then appreciated the University for hosting her. May your adventure be fruitful, fearless, and motivated to be the finest Class of 2022! Look at The Green & Gold, #HBCU!
Missy Elliot Boulevard also shared a picture from the event. In her home in Portsmouth, Virginia, authorities dedicated a piece of McLean Street to her in October.
