(GEM RADIO)- The family of George Floyd is planning legal action in response to Kanye West’s claims. Kanye claims that Floyd died due to fentanyl in his system, not officer Chauvin’s actions.
George Floyd’s Death
Police Officer Chauvin killed Floyd in May 2020. He knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes. Throughout the nine minutes, Floyd yelled, “I can’t breathe,” until his death. Floyd’s death provoked widespread protests against racial injustice and police brutality.
A year later, they found Chauvin guilty of homicide and gave him a 22-year prison term. For infringing Floyd’s civil rights, he earned a second 21-year prison term in July this year.
Kanye West’s Claims
Kanye was discussing Candace Owen’s film The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM. Kanye West mentioned Floyd’s passing and sparked outrage.
I watched the Candace Owens-produced documentary. The one about George Floyd, he said on the Drink Champs show.” One of his roommates commented that he wanted a tall person like me. Also, on the day of his death, he prayed for eight minutes.
“They hit him with the fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that.”
Officer Derek Chauvin’s knee to Floyd’s neck caused him to be unable to breathe. According to physicians, this action ultimately killed him, even though they discovered traces of fentanyl in his system.
Floyd’s Family Threatens to Sue
Lee Merritt, a civil rights lawyer for Floyd’s family, said they are considering suing.
Merritt stated in a tweet that it is illegal to slander the deceased. George Floyd’s family is considering suing Kanye for making false claims about how he died.
The family is of the opinion that the case diminishes if it claims Floyd died from fentanyl instead of cruelty. This is because brutality is the main issue in the case.
