Lil Yachty’s newly released album, “Let’s Start Here,” has been widely acclaimed for its genre-bending approach to music. However, not everyone is impressed; the Atlanta rapper recently fired back at Pitchfork’s 6.0 rating of the project on Twitter.
“Lol, Pitchfork is so washed up,” Lil Yachty posted on Twitter. He then attacked Alphonse Pierre, who authored the demeaning Tweet.
“I respect all opinion.. @al_Peeair but you have a terrible taste in music. And your haircut sucks,” Lil posted.
Despite the below-par rating by Pitchfork, some fans came to the defense of Lil, saying, “Pitchfork is on crack,” while another tweeted that “Album was literally transcendent bro.”
While attending a party in New York(listening party for his album), Lil said he wanted respect for deviating from the traditional hip-hop style to an entirely new and foreign genre not heard of before.
“This album is so special and dear to me. I think I created it just because I really wanted to be taken seriously as an artist, you know? Not just some SoundCloud rapper, not some mumble rapper, not some guy that just made one hit.”
Lil didn’t stop there; he said: “I wanted to be really taken seriously because music is, like, everything to me. I respect all walks of music, not just rap and Hip Hop. Everything. So I wanted to make something to show the world just how great it was to me.”
Apart from the fans who defended Lil on Twitter, one music legend, Questlove, also applauded Lil for being brave. The debate is still raging about the “Let’s Start Here” album, but one thing is for sure, many fans love the way Lil left the beaten path to start a new one – a new genre.
