(GEMS RADIO)- Attorneys for Young Thug want to exclude his lyrics from the upcoming RICO trial. The trial involved his YSL collective. Court records received reveal the Atlanta rapper’s defense team has submitted a motion. A motion to have songs, music videos, and social media posts excluded from the trial’s admissible evidence.
The Filed Motion
The motion states that it’d be unlawful and a misuse of power to admit and use these works of art as evidence in the trial. It would also be overly prejudiced. Furthermore, introducing these statements as evidence against Young Thug is racist and discriminatory. This is because they would sway the jury’s judgment and cause them to be predisposed.
On January 9, 2023, the trial of Thug and several other members of their YSL collective is scheduled to start. It might run for more than half a year. The individuals charged in the 56-count indictment have been detained since May. Young Thug and Gunna have repeatedly been denied release on bond during that time.
The New Trial Dates
New images of the platinum-selling musicians were made public earlier this month. Photos as they appeared by video in court for a pre-trial hearing. Both were dressed in jumpsuits and had substantially longer hair.
Judge Ural Glanville set the January trial date during the hearing. The judge turned down the prosecution’s request to postpone until March. According to the Judge, “the main motivator was that not all had been bonded and they ought to have a right to go to trial.”
Additional Time
An effort was made to give some of the defendants additional time to locate counsel. Meanwhile, Fulton County D.A. applied for a two-month postponement. More than a quarter of the 28 suspected YSL members in the indictment lacked legal representation.
The prosecution disclosed their intention to summon “around 300 witnesses” in the trial. All this information was made public during the hearing earlier this month.
