(GEMS RADIO)- Spotify CEO Daniel criticized Kanye West for his antisemitic remarks. Despite this, he claims his music will remain on the streaming platform. CEO Daniel Ek stated, “It’s simply his music, and his music doesn’t go against our rules.”
Adidas recently dropped Kanye after pressure to sever its lucrative ties with him. He lost relationships with Def Jam, JP Morgan Chase, Balenciaga, his lawyer, and the booking agency. Due to his lost relationships, West’s net worth has decreased from $2 billion to $400 million.
White Lives Matter
White Lives Matter was emblazoned on West’s shirt. He wore this shirt as a stunt during this year’s Paris Fashion Week. This caused a wave of controversy that has now engulfed Kanye West. Kanye West made an antisemitic remark on Instagram reacting to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ call-out. Consequently, he got banned from the social media site.
His Music on Spotify doesn’t go Against the Rules.
Ek acknowledged that the views were “terrible” in a recent interview with Reuters. But he said that Kanye’s music does not infringe on Spotify’s anti-hate policy. He also said it would be up to his former label Def Jam to ask for the music to be deleted.
Ek explained, “Really, it’s simply his music, and his music doesn’t go against our rules.” Ek claimed that if Ye had made antisemitic remarks on a podcast, they would have removed it from Spotify. This is because they have a hate speech policy, but the musician didn’t.
Apology
Antisemitism has no place in our culture, Def Jam said in a statement provided to Reuters. Although West first argued that the word “antisemitism” is “not true,” he has since issued a kind of “apology.” Kanye addressed those he upset with his remarks.
West stated that he didn’t believe in the term “antisemitism” in a recent TV appearance. Speaking to Piers Morgan, West admitted that his antisemitic remarks were discriminatory. He also revealed why he was “jealous” of Jewish culture.
